The Ayensuano District Assembly, with its capital in Coaltar, was carved out from SuhumKraboaCoaltar and became part of the new districts and municipalities created in 2012. These districts were inaugurated simultaneously on June 28th, 2012, by the President HE JEA Mills through an Executive Instrument EI, which created a total of 46 new districts.
The creation of these new districts was necessary due to the large size of some of the existing 170 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
