Ghana State Book Project: Preserving Ghana’s Rich History and Culture
The Ghana State Book Project is a nationwide research initiative aimed at documenting and authenticating the traditional histories of Ghana. This ambitious project, undertaken by StatesBook Ghana and ROOTLINK Research Consortium, in collaboration with various government institutions and organizations, seeks to create authentic State History Books for each traditional state in Ghana.
The project was officially launched in Agona Swedru in March 2012, and since then, it has made significant progress in preserving and promoting Ghana’s rich history and cultural heritage. The first State Book, the Awutu State Book, was successfully launched in Awutu Breku in the central region in September 2012. This comprehensive book contains authentic histories of all the royal families in Awutu, as well as information on festivals, cultural practices, towns and villages, rituals, and traditions.
Another milestone in the project was the launch of the Takyiman State Book on 28th March 2014. This book provides a wealth of information about the Takyiman Traditional Area, including the histories of Bono Manso, Takyiman, and the Fante Relationship. It also covers the various towns and villages in Takyiman, the Bonokyempem Struggle, festivals, churches, schools, the Zongo Community, rituals, and much more.
Leading the Ghana State Book Project is Mr. Isaac Bright Botchway, the National Coordinator and lead researcher. He is supported by a dedicated team of experts, including Professor Akosua Anyidoho, the Board Chairman, and Professor Akosua Perbi from the University of Ghana. Other board members include Dr. Ebenezer Ayensu, Dr. Kwaku Afrani, and Mr. David Dontor. The project also benefits from the expertise of Mr. Mawuli Beduya, Lawyer Dzifa A. Gakpleazi, Mrs. Abigail Tagoe, Mr. Daniel Asafra Tibu, Mr. William Boateng, and Eddie Nikoi Accountancy and Audit Firm.
