How to Apply for Ghana Armed Forces Online: Full Guide

You apply to the Ghana Armed Forces online at apply.mil.gh after buying an e-voucher at a designated Ghana Post office. For the 2026/2027 officer intake the voucher cost GH₵200, the portal opened on Friday, September 4, 2026, and all applications had to be submitted by Wednesday, September 23, 2026[1]. Published minimum heights were 1.68m for males and 1.60m for females[2]. As at 20 October 2026 that window has closed and we found no new intake announced by the Ghana Armed Forces.

A route showing the Ghana Armed Forces online application: confirm an open intake, buy the e-voucher at a designated Ghana Post office, log in with the serial number and PIN, enter your details, then submit and print the summary carrying your GAF ID. It ends with two outcomes, shortlisted for documentation and body selection or waiting for the next intake, plus the published standards and a warning about agents.

Updated October 2026

This guide sets out what the Ghana Armed Forces published for its two most recent Ghana Military Academy intakes, 2025/2026 and 2026/2027, so you can test yourself against the standards before you spend money on a voucher or listen to anyone selling you a form.

Is the Ghana Armed Forces form out right now?

No. The most recent window was the 2026/2027 enlistment for commissioned officers into the Ghana Army, the Ghana Navy and the Ghana Air Force. Vouchers went on sale on September 3, 2026, the portal opened on September 4 and online applications closed on September 23, 2026[1,3]. Shortlisted applicants were then notified by text message to attend a documentation and body selection exercise from September 28 to 30, 2026[4]. As at 20 October 2026 no application window is open. We found no new intake announced on the Ghana Armed Forces website or in its press releases, and the apply.mil.gh portal now directs existing applicants to track their progress and lists no new closing date. Reports of planned recruitment are not an open window: treat any advert you see now as unconfirmed until the Ghana Armed Forces announces an intake on its official channels with a portal opening date and a closing date.

The Armed Forces also runs separate enlistment exercises for recruits who are not entering as officers. The 2025/2026 recruit exercise began on October 1, 2025; its online deadline was extended from October 31 to November 7, 2025 after technical difficulties on the portal, and documentation and body selection was scheduled for November 12 and 13, 2025[5].

The requirements below are the ones the Armed Forces published for its officer intakes, and the height and credit standards have stayed the same across recent cycles. Three items change from cycle to cycle and must be confirmed fresh: the voucher price, the age cut-off date and the deadline. The voucher cost GH₵350 in the 2023 enlistment, GH₵250 for 2025/2026 and GH₵200 for 2026/2027[1,6,7].

Who is eligible to apply?

The 2025/2026 notice limited entry to Ghanaian citizens by birth; the 2026/2027 requirements call for Ghanaian citizens of good character who are medically fit to Armed Forces standards and able to pass the Pre-Joining Fitness Test[2,7]. The Armed Forces also emphasised that academic results must be genuine and verifiable. The 2025/2026 notice added that transcripts or attestations would not be accepted at the documentation stage, so have your original certificates ready[7].

For Regular Officer Cadet entry, applicants must be unmarried, not bonded, and must be between 18 and 26 years old by 18 February 2027 for the 2026/2027 intake; the 2025/2026 cut-off date was 31 March 2026[2,7]. “Not bonded” means you are not tied to another employer or a scholarship sponsor by a service agreement.

What are the minimum height and physical standards?

The officer intakes set a minimum height of 1.68m (5’6”) for males and 1.60m (5’2”) for females, with higher standards for the Military Police: 1.75m (5’9”) for males and 1.70m (5’7”) for females[2]. The 2025/2026 recruit exercise listed 1.57m for females[5]. Measure yourself barefoot against a wall before you pay for anything, because height is checked physically at the body selection stage.

Candidates are also expected to be medically fit to Armed Forces standards and must pass the Pre-Joining Fitness Test[2]. Build running and press-up capacity in the months before an intake opens, not in the week of selection.

Which branches and trades recruit in a Military Academy intake?

In the 2025/2026 intake the Ghana Air Force recruited for Operations, Engineering, Supply, Administration, Ordnance, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Public Relations, Education, Band, Catering and Physical Training[7]. The Army list for that intake also included non-combat corps such as the Education Corps, Pay Corps, Records and Catering alongside Infantry, Armour and Artillery.

In the 2025/2026 intake, health professional categories carried higher age limits, ranging from 30 to 40 years, and applicants must be duly registered with the relevant regulatory bodies[7]. If you are a nurse, pharmacist or doctor, your professional registration matters as much as your degree, and you can check employer and training options among health and medical providers in Ghana while you wait for an intake.

Which entry route fits you?

RouteWho it is forKey published standard
Regular Cadet courseSchool leavers entering as career officersUnmarried, not bonded, aged 18 to 26 by 18 February 2027 for 2026/2027
Regular Career Officer CourseFirst-degree holders entering as career officersA first degree not below Second Class Lower in a discipline that fits the chosen stream
Short Service CommissionHolders of master’s degrees and professional registrationsOpen to holders of master’s degrees and professional registrations (2025/2026)[7]
Health professional categoriesDoctors, pharmacists, nurses and allied health staffAge limits of 30 to 40 years plus registration with the relevant regulatory body (2025/2026)
GAFCSC graduate admission, not recruitmentOfficers and security professionals studying at the staff collegeA bachelor’s degree at second class lower or better and two years experience in a peace and security-related organisation[8]

Choose by your highest qualification and your age. School leavers with the credit profile aim at the Regular Cadet course; first-degree holders aim at the Regular Career Officer Course; master’s degree holders and registered professionals look at Short Service Commission entry; registered health professionals use the health categories.

How do you complete the online application step by step?

  1. Confirm an intake is open and note the published closing date before you spend anything.
  2. Buy the e-voucher at a designated Ghana Post office. For the 2026/2027 intake it cost GH₵200[1].
  3. Photograph the voucher serial number and PIN and keep the voucher; the 2023 instructions said it would be inspected at every selection stage[6].
  4. Go to the official portal at apply.mil.gh, read the entry requirements, click Apply Now, enter the card serial number and PIN, then select your Arm of Service[9].
  5. Choose your branch, enter your bio data and education details exactly as they appear on your certificates, and upload a passport photograph sized 200 x 180 pixels[9]. Past cycles also asked for scans of your results slip and, where relevant, your degree certificate[6].
  6. Submit and print the application summary, which carries your GAF ID number[9]. For the 2025/2026 recruit screening, shortlisted applicants brought it to documentation with their original certificates and birth certificate[5].
  7. Submit days before the deadline rather than on the last evening; the 2025/2026 recruit deadline had to be extended after the portal ran into technical difficulties.

Transcripts and attestations were not accepted at the 2025/2026 documentation stage, so collect originals early. If the portal rejects your login, recheck the serial number and PIN and try Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, the browsers named in the 2023 instructions[6], before assuming the voucher is faulty.

What does the voucher cost, and who should you not pay?

The voucher is an electronic voucher sold at designated Ghana Post offices: GH₵250 for the 2025/2026 Military Academy intake and GH₵200 for the 2026/2027 intake[1,7]. Announcing the 2026/2027 exercise, the Armed Forces said it does not use middlemen or agents and charges no fees beyond the voucher cost, and cautioned the public against paying anyone who claims to be an agent[3]. It gave 0256 405 104 (calls) and 0256 405 154 (WhatsApp) for reporting suspected fraud[1]. The portal itself states that the Armed Forces has no authorised middlemen and that vacancies are not for sale[9].

Different prices and private phone numbers offering “access” to forms circulate on social media. Pay only the counter price at a designated Ghana Post office; anything charged above it is not an Armed Forces fee.

Is the Command and Staff College the same as recruitment?

No. The Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College runs officer education, not civilian entry. Its regular stream is intended for Senior Division students of the Ghana Armed Forces, friendly armed forces, and some sister security agencies. Its graduate route asks for a good bachelor’s degree at second class lower or better and a minimum of two years working experience in a peace and security-related organisation[8]. If you have never served, this is not your door in.

What happens after you submit?

After the closing date, shortlisted applicants are notified by text message with their centre and reporting date for documentation and body selection, where documents are verified and final physical examinations are carried out[4,5]. Candidates must also meet Armed Forces medical standards and pass the Pre-Joining Fitness Test. The recruitment notices do not publish recruit pay, so treat any salary figure you see online as unverified until the Armed Forces states it; for general wage context in Ghana, see the national daily minimum wage data.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I buy military application forms in Ghana?

Applications are made online after buying a voucher at a Post Office counter. For the 2026/2027 intake the e-voucher cost GH₵200 at designated Ghana Post offices nationwide; it was GH₵250 for 2025/2026[1,7]. Do not buy from individuals advertising form access on social media with a private phone number; confirm the current price at the counter before paying anything.

How much do new Army recruits get paid in Ghana?

The official recruitment notice for the Ghana Military Academy intake publishes entry requirements, qualifications and the closing date rather than recruit pay. Treat salary figures posted online as unverified until the Ghana Armed Forces states them. For a general sense of Ghanaian wage floors while you plan, the national daily minimum wage data on this site gives a published reference point.

What academic results do I need to apply?

The 2026/2027 requirements asked for six credits including English, Mathematics and Science: Grades A1 to C6 at WASSCE, A to D at SSSCE or Grades 1 to 6 at BECE[2]. Most specialist roles require a first degree not below Second Class Lower from an accredited institution[7]. Health professional categories also require registration with the relevant regulatory bodies.

What happens if my results cannot be verified?

The Armed Forces emphasised that academic results must be genuine and verifiable[7]. Transcripts or attestations were not accepted at the documentation stage in that intake, so keep your original certificates ready and make sure your names match across certificate, Ghana Card and birth certificate.

Does the GAF recruitment portal login need the voucher?

Yes. To start an application on apply.mil.gh you enter the card serial number and PIN from the e-voucher bought at a designated Ghana Post office, so photograph both before you start[9]. If login fails, recheck both numbers and try Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox before returning to the Post Office.
