This is the most important thing to understand about exchange rates in Ghana, and most global converters get it wrong for the cedi because they only show the mid-market rate. On 14 July 2026 the interbank dollar rate was about GH¢11.48 to GH¢11.50, but forex bureaux were buying dollars at roughly GH¢11.90 and selling at GH¢12.25. That gap, more than 70 pesewas on the selling side, is the bureau's margin. So if you buy US dollars with cedis at a bureau, expect the higher bureau rate, not the official one. Over the twelve months to mid-July 2026 the cedi weakened about 9.91% against the US dollar, and around 1.76% in the previous month alone. A depreciating cedi raises the price of everything Ghana imports, which is why the exchange rate connects directly to inflation, to fuel prices at the pump, and to the duty and landed cost of imported goods.
The Bank of Ghana interbank rate for the dollar was about GH¢11.46 in mid-July 2026, while bureaux sold dollars closer to GH¢12.25. See the dollar to cedi page.
The Bank of Ghana daily interbank rate, published each working day. It is the rate banks and businesses reference; the public typically transacts at the wider bureau rate.
Strong demand for foreign currency to pay for imports has pushed the cedi down against the dollar over the past year, which feeds into higher inflation.
