Applications to join the Ghana Immigration Service are made online, not at a GIS office. The latest published exercise routed every application through the Centralised Services E Recruitment Portal at cserpgh.com. That window opened on Monday, 17 November 2025 at 12:00 noon GMT and closed on 19 December 2025[1]. No new application window had been announced as at 18 October 2026, and the Ministry of the Interior says the next training batch will be drawn from the current pool of successful applicants[2].
Updated October 2026
Immigration was one of four services in the 2025/26 centralised exercise run by the Ministry of the Interior, alongside Police, Fire and Prisons. The requirements below are the published 2025/26 figures, and a new notice may change them. WebsitesGH is not the Ghana Immigration Service and does not process applications.
Is GIS recruitment open right now?
No. The most recent exercise covering Immigration opened on Monday, 17 November 2025 at 12:00 noon GMT and closed on 19 December 2025[1], and no new window had been announced as at 18 October 2026. More than 180,000 people applied to join Immigration in that cycle, and the Interior Minister said the Service had space for about 1,000 recruits[3]. In August 2026 the Minister said the first 10,000 successful applicants across the four services were in training and another 10,000 would be drawn from the current pool of successful applicants next year[2]. Before you spend money or time, check gis.gov.gh and Ministry of the Interior notices, which the Ministry says are announced in the national dailies[4].
What you can do now is prepare. Standards, document formats and payment routes can change between cycles, but a candidate who already meets the 2025/26 grade, age and height marks and has scans ready can apply early in the next window instead of in the last hours.
Where do applications get submitted?
The centralised exercise accepted applications only on the official Centralised Services E Recruitment Portal, whose address is cserpgh.com[1]. Treat gis.gov.gh as the agency’s own website, the place for announcements and official information, and treat the centralised portal as the place where an application is actually lodged.
If a new notice names a different portal, the notice wins. The Ministry of the Interior says official security-service recruitment is announced in the national dailies, not through third-party forms or links[4], so check gis.gov.gh and Ministry of the Interior announcements rather than typing a portal address from a WhatsApp forward or a Facebook comment.
Who can apply to the Ghana Immigration Service?
The Ghana Immigration Service sets requirements for people who want to become immigration officers, and specific requirements attach to different officer positions. The table below sets out the Immigration criteria published on the official GIS page of the C-SERP portal for the 2025/26 exercise[5].
| Requirement | What it means for GIS | Where confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Age, general duty (non-graduate recruits) | 18 to 32 years by 1 November 2025 | Official GIS page, C-SERP portal |
| Age, graduate entry | 18 to 35 years by 1 November 2025, with a first degree not below second class lower and National Service completed | Official GIS page, C-SERP portal |
| Age, tradesmen and artisans | 18 to 35 years; masons, welders and fabricators need at least two years practical experience, and drivers at least three years with a valid DVLA licence | Official GIS page, C-SERP portal |
| Height | At least 1.68 m (5ft 6in) for males and 1.57 m (5ft 2in) for females | Official GIS page, C-SERP portal |
| Education, general duty | SSSCE or WASSCE with at least five credits including English and Mathematics, or an HND or diploma where applicable | Official GIS page, C-SERP portal |
| General | Ghanaian by birth, no criminal record, good character, physically and medically fit, not bonded to any organisation and not dismissed from a public service institution | Official GIS page, C-SERP portal |
Police[6] and Fire[7] set taller marks of 1.73 m for males and 1.63 m for females in the same exercise, so do not mix up guides written for different services. Check the requirements published with any new notice before relying on a figure.
Which entry route fits your grades?
- Five WASSCE or SSSCE credits including A1 to C6 in English and Mathematics: the general duty education standard.
- Aged 18 to 32 by 1 November 2025 with those credits: the general duty recruit route in the 2025/26 cycle.
- A first degree not below second class lower, National Service completed and age 18 to 35: the graduate entry route. Doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other medical staff also need registration with their professional council[5].
- A BECE, WASSCE, NVTI, COTVET, City and Guilds or technical certificate in your trade, age 18 to 35 and, for many trades, at least two years experience: the tradesmen and artisans route[5].
- No credit in English or Mathematics, for example an F9 in a core subject: the general duty standard asks for A1 to C6 in both, so resitting before the next window is the realistic step.
Read the category description in the notice before you pick a route, because the requirement attached to your position is the one you will be measured against. Trades applicants should keep the trade certificate, whether from an NVTI, COTVET or City and Guilds programme, in the same folder as their scans.
How do you complete the online application step by step?
- Confirm you meet the age and education standard for the exact category you want, for example 18 to 32 by 1 November 2025 for general duty in the 2025/26 cycle[5].
- Check your height against the published mark of 168 cm for males and 157 cm for females[1].
- Buy the e-voucher for the Ghana Immigration Service; you name the agency when you buy it. In 2025/26 it was sold by dialling *713*03# on any mobile network and paying by mobile money, or at any GCB Bank branch[8]. The form cost was reported as GH¢220 in that cycle[9], so confirm the price in the new notice and keep the PIN and serial number.
- Open the Centralised Services E Recruitment Portal at cserpgh.com and register with your voucher details[1].
- Complete the form carefully: full name as printed on your certificate, date of birth, phone number, email, Ghana Card number and Ghana Post GPS digital address[10]. A mismatch between form and certificate causes problems at verification.
- Upload your scans, submit, and save the confirmation that comes to your phone or email.
In the 2025/26 cycle, applicants who passed the online stage were called for physical document verification and body inspection, sat an online aptitude test with results published on the portal, and then went through medical screening, done once per candidate regardless of how many agencies they applied to[11]. Notification goes to the contact details on the form, which is why a wrong phone number is a costly typing error.
A worked example on document sizes
Say you prepare four scans: a passport picture on a red or white background, your biometric birth certificate, your JHS certificate and your WASSCE certificate[10]. Every file must be in PNG or JPG format and must not exceed 1.5 MB per file[1]. The limit applies to each file, so a 1.2 MB WASSCE scan passes while a 2 MB birth certificate scan must be redone. If one scan comes out above the limit, rescan at a lower resolution rather than trying to upload it as it is.
How does GIS compare with Police, Fire and Prisons in the same exercise?
One centralised exercise can cover several security services at once, and the standards are not identical across them. Pick the service and the category deliberately.
| Service | Covered in this guide | Published standard to note |
|---|---|---|
| Ghana Immigration Service | Yes, in full | General duty age 18 to 32; height 1.68 m for males and 1.57 m for females[5] |
| Ghana Police Service | Comparison only | General duty age 18 to 30; height 1.73 m for males and 1.63 m for females; five SSSCE or WASSCE passes including English and Mathematics[6] |
| Ghana National Fire Service | Comparison only | Height 173 cm for males and 163 cm for females, the same mark as Police[1] |
| Ghana Prisons Service | Comparison only | Confirm the category criteria in the notice for the cycle |
The practical lesson is that a height or grade profile which passes for Immigration may not pass for Police or Fire, and the reverse is also true. Compare your own numbers against the row for the service you want before you buy a voucher.
What documents and details should you prepare?
- Scans of your passport picture, biometric birth certificate, JHS certificate, WASSCE or SSSCE certificate and any tertiary or professional certificates, in PNG or JPG, each no larger than 1.5 MB[10].
- An affidavit only if your name has changed; affidavits for a change of age are not accepted[10].
- Full name exactly as printed on your certificate, plus your date of birth.
- A phone number you control and an email address you can open.
- Your Ghana Card number and Ghana Post GPS digital address[10].
- The e-voucher PIN and serial number from the mobile money or bank purchase[1].
- A quiet half hour: forms filled in a rush are forms with errors.
How do you spot fake GIS recruitment adverts and middlemen?
The 2025/26 notice stated that there are no middlemen in the recruitment selection process, and that false information or forged documents can lead to disqualification and possible prosecution[8]. The Interior Minister said the recruitment is not for sale and asked the public to report anyone offering a slot[12]. Anyone who offers to place your name on a list for a fee is not part of the process.
The only payment named in the published instructions is the service specific e-voucher, bought on the mobile money shortcode or at a bank branch[1]. Money requested through an individual’s mobile money number, an unexplained health or administrative fee, or a cash handover away from a bank are all warning signs. The Ministry of the Interior has also said it has not authorised any individual, group or third-party platform, such as a Google Form, to recruit or collect data on its behalf[4]. Verify any notice on gis.gov.gh before you act on it.

No official monthly salary for an immigration officer is published, so ask the Service directly rather than trusting an amount from a forwarded message.
What does the Ghana Immigration Service do, and who leads it?
Samuel Basintale Amadu is a senior immigration official with over 30 years of dedicated service in the Ghana Immigration Service, and he serves as Comptroller General of Immigration[13]. His experience spans immigration enforcement, border security, intelligence, regulatory compliance and international relations. The Service also works with partners on migration policy, including the International Centre for Migration Policy Development.
Officers work at borders, airports and other entry points, which is why the requirements combine good character, physical and medical fitness and minimum academic grades.
Try this today
- Measure your height, barefoot, and compare it with the Immigration mark for your sex.
- Pull out your result slip and count credits, checking English and Mathematics for A1 to C6.
- Work out your age and match it to a route; in 2025/26 ages were counted to 1 November 2025, with graduate entry at 18 to 35[5].
- Scan your certificate as a PNG or JPG today, under the per file size limit, and store it where you can find it.
- Bookmark gis.gov.gh and check it monthly for the next recruitment notice.
Graduates aiming for the graduate entry route can read our guide to applying to university in Ghana, and contacts for other state agencies are in the government and public sector directory. Readers who need to resit a core subject can start with providers in the education and training directory.
Frequently asked questions
How do I log in to the Ghana Immigration Service recruitment portal?
Logins run on the same portal where the application is lodged, the Centralised Services E Recruitment Portal at cserpgh.com[1]. You sign in with the account you created using your voucher serial number and PIN, so store both safely. If you lose access, use the 24/7 support lines listed under Contact Us on the official GIS page of the portal[5]. Do not ask an agent to recover an account for you.
Is an F9 grade accepted for Ghana Immigration Service recruitment?
The published general duty education standard for Immigration is five WASSCE or SSSCE credits with A1 to C6 in English and Mathematics[1]. An F9 in English or Mathematics does not meet that standard, so the application would fail at verification even if the form is submitted. The practical route is to resit the failed core subject and apply in a later window.
How much is the Ghana Immigration Service salary per month?
The Ghana Immigration Service does not publish a monthly salary figure for recruits on its website, so no reliable amount can be quoted here. Salary figures shared on social media and blogs are not official. Ask the Service directly through the contacts on gis.gov.gh, or wait for the pay details issued to successful candidates on appointment, rather than planning around a forwarded number.
Which course is best for an immigration officer in Ghana?
No single course is named as a requirement. The published entry standards matter more: five credits including English and Mathematics for general duty, a first degree not below second class lower for the graduate route, or a trade certificate with experience for the trades route[5]. Subjects linked to the work, such as law, security studies, languages, information technology and accounting, help at graduate level and in later specialisation.
Can I apply to more than one service in the centralised exercise?
The centralised exercise covered the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service and Ghana Prisons Service, and each has its own criteria, for example Police and Fire height at 173 cm for males and 163 cm for females[1]. Vouchers are agency specific, and you name the agency when you buy one[8]. Some applicants did apply to more than one agency in 2025/26: the Ministry said successful candidates would be medically screened once regardless of how many agencies they applied to[11]. Check that you meet each service’s criteria before paying for each voucher.
Is there an application fee, and how is it paid?
The payment named in the published instructions is a service specific e-voucher. In 2025/26 it was sold by dialling *713*03# on any mobile network and paying by mobile money, or at any GCB Bank branch[8]. The form cost was reported as GH¢220 per applicant in that cycle[9]. Confirm the price in any new notice and keep the receipt, PIN and serial number.
Where can I find the official GIS prospectus or recruitment notice?
Check the Ghana Immigration Service website, gis.gov.gh, and Ministry of the Interior notices, which the Ministry says are announced in the national dailies[4]. Recruitment instructions for the centralised exercise are published with the portal notice at cserpgh.com[1]. Treat PDFs shared on document sites or group chats as copies that may be old, and check the date and the portal address before acting.
How do I track my application after submitting?
Track the application on the portal account you created, and watch the phone number and email you entered on the form, because shortlisting and screening invitations go to those contacts. In 2025/26 the stages were document verification and body inspection, an online aptitude test with results published on the portal, and medical screening[14]. If your contact details were wrong, you may miss an invitation, so check the saved form details and confirmation message carefully after submitting.
