Association of African Universities
The Association of African Universities (AAU) is an organization with diplomatic status that aims to promote and support higher education institutions in Africa. With its headquarters in Accra, Ghana, the AAU plays a crucial role in addressing the development challenges faced by African universities and facilitating their growth and advancement.

History and Objectives
The AAU was established in 1967 as an apex organization for African universities. It was founded with the aim of promoting cooperation and collaboration among African institutions of higher learning. The AAU’s founding constitution was adopted in Rabat, Morocco, and it initially had 46 member countries.
Over the years, the AAU has grown and expanded its membership to include universities from across the African continent. Currently, it has member institutions from 53 African countries, cutting across various thematic areas and fields of study.
