How to Check Your miLife Insurance Balance in Ghana

To check a miLife Insurance balance in Ghana, sign in to the miLife Customer Portal with your telephone number or policy number, or call miLife on 024 243 9999 or 030 242 9200.[1,2] If you hold miWay on MTN Mobile Money, dial *165# and choose Savings to see your savings balance, or Check Status, then Request Statement, for a statement.[3,4]

You pay in every month and still cannot see what the policy is worth. This guide sets out the official routes from miLife and MTN Ghana, explains what the number you are given means, and keeps a balance check separate from a withdrawal or a cancellation.

What is the fastest way to see a miLife balance?

There are three official routes, depending on how you bought the policy:

  • miLife Customer Portal. miLife’s FAQs send policy-status enquiries, as well as beneficiary changes and claim or refund requests, to its Customer Portal at ohemaa.milifeghana.com.[1] The login page asks for any one of your telephone number or your policy number.
  • miLife customer line. Call 024 243 9999 or 030 242 9200 with your policy number ready.[1,2]
  • MTN *165# for miWay. miWay is bought and paid through MTN Mobile Money, and miLife says subscribers can manage the policy by dialling *165# on any phone with an MTN SIM.[5] MTN Ghana’s help centre says option 6 (Savings) on that menu displays your miWay savings balance.[3]

For miFuture on Telecel Cash, miLife documents *462# only for signing up and requesting a claim, not for checking a balance.[6] For a miFuture savings balance, use the Customer Portal or call miLife on 024 243 9999. If someone gives you any other code, check it with miLife before you dial it.

What does the balance figure actually mean?

This is where most policyholders go wrong. A life policy can show three very different numbers, and only one of them is money you might ever access.

  • Premiums paid. The total received by the insurer. It is a payment record, not a withdrawable pot.
  • Savings or cash value. Only savings-style plans build this. It is the part of your premium allocated to savings, plus growth, less charges.
  • Sum assured, or cover. What would be paid on a valid claim. It is not available to you while the policy runs.

miLife’s FAQs draw the same line: surrender applies to an investment-linked policy with a cash value, while termination cancels a pure risk policy that has no cash value.[1] When you ask for a balance, ask which of the three figures you are being given, in Ghana cedis.

Does your plan even have a balance?

miLife lists seven individual plans: miDream, miWay, miKids, miFuture, miLegacy, miCash and miTribute. Its group products are the Heritage Cash Back Plan (formerly GNAT) and miGroup Funeral, and its company products are Group Life, Credit Life, Mortgage Life and Keyman Life.[2] The company products protect employees, loans, mortgages or key staff; they are not personal savings accounts.

The product pages show which plans hold money you can draw on. miCash is an endowment savings plan that pays a target amount at maturity.[7] miWay and miFuture carry optional savings accounts on top of the cover.[5,6] The Heritage Cash Back Plan returns a member’s premium contributions with a bonus at the end of the policy term if no claim is made.[8] For any other plan, check your policy schedule for wording about savings, cash value, maturity or surrender. If that wording is absent, you hold risk cover only and there is no balance to draw.

How do you check a miWay balance on MTN *165#?

miWay premiums are deducted automatically from your MTN MoMo wallet every month.[9] Your MoMo history shows what you paid; the *165# menu shows your miWay savings and statement. MTN Ghana’s help centre gives these steps:[3,4]

  1. Dial *165# on the MTN line that pays the premium.
  2. For your savings balance, select option 6 (Savings). The balance is displayed, and you can stop there or enter an amount to withdraw.
  3. For a statement, select option 2 (Check Status), then option 7 (Request Statement). The records show on screen and an SMS follows.

Menu numbers can change, so follow the on-screen labels if they differ. miWay’s savings account is optional, so if you never added savings there is no balance to draw. miFuture is a separate product on Telecel Cash; its *462# menu is documented for sign-up and claims only, so for a miFuture savings balance use the Customer Portal or call miLife on 024 243 9999.

How do partial withdrawal, stopping and surrender differ?

People blur these actions constantly, and the money outcome is different in each case.

ActionWho can do itChannelWhat to expect
Balance checkAny policyholdermiWay: *165# option 6, or option 2 then 7 for a statement; other plans: Customer Portal or 024 243 9999miWay: savings balance or transaction statement; other plans: policy status

Cancel the policyAny policyholder*165# option 5 for miWay on MTN, or call miLifeCover ends; on miWay only your savings, if any, are paid out
Surrender the policyHolders of investment-linked plansAsk miLife for its surrender processA cash value; on miCash it is 25% to 100% of contributions, depending on how long you paid

Sources for the table: miLife FAQs, the miWay terms, MTN Ghana’s help centre and the miCash product page.[1,3,7,9,10] Terms differ by plan, so for any figure an agent quotes, ask miLife for the clause in your own contract and ask for the answer in writing.

Timing matters. The National Insurance Commission says policyholders have a free-look period after receiving the policy document, during which they may cancel and get a refund of premiums paid, less any deduction for cover already provided.[11] On miWay, miLife’s terms say that if you cancel within 15 days after your first premium, your money is refunded.[9] After that, cancelling pays out only savings or a surrender value, if your plan has one.

How do you stop a miLife deduction on MTN?

MTN Ghana’s help centre says to dial *165#, select option 5 and follow the prompts to cancel a miLife miWay policy, and to call miLife on 024 243 9999 or 030 242 9200 for help.[10] Cancelling ends your benefits; on miWay, only your savings, if any, are paid out. Leaving your wallet empty is not a cancellation: under the miWay terms, three missed monthly premiums make the policy inactive and you lose your benefits.[9] Keep the confirmation SMS or ask miLife to confirm the cancellation in writing.

What if the balance looks wrong or the check fails?

  • Portal login rejected: try the other detail the login page accepts (telephone number or policy number), then call 024 243 9999.
  • Figure lower than expected: ask for a breakdown of charges and the cost of cover deducted.
  • Payments missing: send the mobile money transaction IDs and dates with your policy number.
  • No resolution: put it in writing to miLife, then file with the NIC Complaints Hub. The NIC handles complaints the company has not already resolved.

Keep a note of every contact: date, time, the agent’s name and what was promised. That record is what settles a dispute later.

Try this today

  1. Find your policy document and write down the policy number and the plan name.
  2. Check whether the wording mentions savings, cash value or maturity.
  3. Confirm which SIM is registered on the policy.
  4. Request a statement: on miWay, dial *165#, then Check Status and Request Statement; on other plans, use the Customer Portal or call 024 243 9999.
  5. Ask directly whether a partial withdrawal is allowed on your plan, and what it costs.

Frequently asked questions

What is the code to check insurance in Ghana?

There is no single national code. For miLife’s miWay on MTN, dial *165#: option 6 (Savings) shows your savings balance, and option 2 then option 7 requests a statement, according to MTN Ghana. miFuture’s Telecel code, *462#, is documented for sign-up and claims only, so for miFuture and other miLife plans, check your balance or policy status on the Customer Portal or call 024 243 9999.

How do I deactivate miLife insurance on MTN?

For miWay, dial *165#, select option 5 and follow the prompts, as MTN Ghana’s help centre describes; miLife’s support team on 024 243 9999 or 030 242 9200 can help. Cancelling ends your benefits, and on miWay only your savings, if any, are paid out. For refunds, see the next question.

How do I cancel my life insurance and get money back?

Timing decides it. The NIC says you have a free-look period after receiving your policy document to cancel for a refund of premiums, less any deduction for cover already provided. On miWay that window is 15 days after the first premium. Later on, miLife’s FAQs separate surrender of an investment-linked policy, which pays its cash value, from termination of a pure risk policy, which has no cash value. Ask miLife which applies to your plan before you sign anything.

Can I make a partial withdrawal from a miLife policy?

Only plans with savings can be drawn on. miWay savings can be withdrawn at any time through *165#, option 6.[3,9] miFuture also allows savings withdrawals any time after the policy starts.[6] miLife’s FAQs say partial withdrawals are processed within two working days.[1] For other plans, ask miLife what your contract allows and what deductions apply.

What details does miLife need before it releases balance information?

Have your policy number or the phone number registered on the policy; the Customer Portal accepts either. miWay claims also need a valid national ID, so keep your Ghana Card to hand.[9] If premiums come from MoMo, have recent transaction references ready.

Which miLife plans have a savings balance to check?

miCash is an endowment savings plan. miWay and miFuture have optional savings accounts. The Heritage Cash Back Plan (formerly GNAT) returns premium contributions with a bonus at the end of the term if no claim is made. miLife’s other individual plans are miDream, miKids, miLegacy and miTribute; check your schedule for savings, cash value, maturity or surrender wording.

Where do I complain if my miLife balance looks wrong?

Start with miLife: the Complaints link on its website opens the Customer Portal.[2] Put the dispute in writing with your policy number, dates and amounts deducted, and keep a record of each call. If miLife does not resolve it, file with the NIC Complaints Hub, or contact the NIC on +233 302 238300 / 1 or info@nic.gov.gh.[13]
