Unichem (Ghana) Limited is the pharmaceutical distribution company of the Unichem Ghana Group, whose African headquarters is at 17 Dadeban Road, North Industrial Area, Accra. It supplies medicines and health products to pharmacies, hospitals and other healthcare providers. A 2019 Ghanaian Times profile of the group’s founder called Unichem Ghana one of the leading pharmaceutical distributors in the country, carrying products from the UK, the USA, Germany and France.
The group traces its roots to a business started more than 60 years ago by its founder, the late Dr H.D. Mohan. In April 2025 the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana gave the Unichem Ghana Group the Excellence in Wholesale & Distribution award at its first Pharma Excellence Awards.
Graphic Online (April 2025) reports that Unichem serves as a gateway into Ghana for international pharmaceutical companies including Boots, Pfizer, Sanofi, Wallace and Walter Ritter. Unichem also distributes the LUEX Healthcare (UK) range made in Ghana by its sister company. Products shown at the opening of its Kumasi depot in March 2026 included LUEX Cough Syrup, Mycolex, Diclolex Pain Gel, Wormbat, Fisherman’s Friend lozenges and Masculan condoms.
The group’s logistics page says its distribution business handles prescription, generic and over-the-counter medicines, active pharmaceutical ingredients, biopharmaceuticals, and personal care products such as supplements and wellness items. The group’s website gives its reach as more than 4,000 health facilities and over 500 products.
The group describes its logistics as built on speed, safety and compliance, with temperature-controlled handling to protect medicines. In March 2026 it opened an Ashanti regional headquarters and distribution depot in Kumasi to supply pharmacies, hospitals and healthcare providers in the Ashanti Region and the northern corridor. Its first Kumasi branch, in Adum, had opened more than two decades earlier.
Manufacturing in the group is done by a separate company, Unichem Industries Limited, which makes LUEX-brand medicines under licence at its plant on Spintex Road, Accra.
