Damang is a gold mine in the Western Region, smaller than the neighbouring Tarkwa mine. It produced 135,000 ounces of gold in 2024 under Gold Fields, which had stopped active mining in 2023 and was processing stockpiles.

After the government declined to renew Gold Fields’ lease in April 2025, Damang passed to Ghanaian firm Engineers and Planners through a state-run tender, one of the first major mines to move to full local ownership.

Who owns Damang mine now?

Following Gold Fields’ lease expiry in 2025, the Damang concession was awarded to Engineers and Planners, led by Ibrahim Mahama. The Government of Ghana held interim control during the transition.
