Ahafo is the largest gold mine in Ghana by output, operated by Newmont in the Ahafo and Bono regions. It produced 798,000 ounces of gold in 2024, a sharp increase from 581,000 ounces in 2023.
Ahafo combines open-pit and underground mining. Newmont also brought a separate operation, Ahafo North, into commercial production in late 2025, adding further output from the same district.
Ahafo is owned and operated by Newmont Corporation, the world’s largest gold producer, listed on the New York Stock Exchange, with a 10 percent Government of Ghana carried interest.
Ahafo produced about 798,000 ounces of gold in 2024, making it the highest-producing single gold mine in Ghana.
