Nsuta, in the Western Region, is Ghana’s only large-scale manganese mine and one of the oldest manganese operations in the world, in production since 1916. It is run by the Ghana Manganese Company.
The Ghana Chamber of Mines reported about 5 million tonnes of manganese ore from Ghana in 2024, effectively all from Nsuta. Output here is measured as ore tonnage; figures on a manganese-content basis are much lower.
Nsuta is operated by the Ghana Manganese Company, 90 percent owned by Consolidated Minerals, a subsidiary of China’s Ningxia Tianyuan Manganese Industry, with the Government of Ghana holding 10 percent.
