Obuasi is one of West Africa’s most storied gold mines, in operation since the 1890s and located in the Ashanti Region. Operated by AngloGold Ashanti, it produced 221,000 ounces of gold in 2024 at a total cash cost of US$1,214 an ounce.
After a major redevelopment completed in 2019, Obuasi is now a mechanised, deep underground mine focused on high-grade ore, and was still ramping up toward steady-state output in 2024.
