Wassa is a gold mine in the Western Region, combining open-pit and underground operations. It is owned by China’s Chifeng Jilong Gold Mining through Golden Star Wassa Ltd, with the Government of Ghana holding 10 percent.
Chifeng acquired Wassa when it took Golden Star Resources private in 2022 and has not published per-mine production figures since. The last public output figure was about 155,000 ounces in 2021.
